Do you need to renew your melting pot immigration card? We explain what the process consists of.
In recent years, the Panamanian government felt the need to develop programs to legalize the status of thousands of foreigners residing in the country. This is how the Crisol de Razas, also known as the Extraordinary Regularization Program, was created. All the cards granted are of a temporary nature, so those who have them must renew them.
In 2021, through Executive Decree 235, the government establishes new requirements and fees for the renewal of these cards. In addition, it indicates that those who have at least eight years with the Crisol de Razas card, may opt for permanent residency. It is worth noting that the government has indicated that it does not intend to carry out another extraordinary regularization process, that is to say that no more Crucible of Breeds or similar programs are foreseen.
Those who have had their permit for six or ten years may opt directly for permanent residency. For these cases, the application must be based on one of the migratory categories established by law, such as demographic reasons, having a child over 5 years old or a Panamanian spouse; economic reasons, for labor reasons, a copy of the work permit must be presented, together with the certificate of affiliation to the Social Security Fund; for fiscal reasons, the foreigner must present the last income tax returns and a certificate of good standing with the tax authorities.
